    Introduction(Contd...)

At current Child mortality levels, one in every 21 Nepalese children dies before they reach a year, while one in every sixteen does not survive to the fifth birthday. Data from the 2006 NDHS show that infant mortality has declined by 41 percent over the past 15 years form 82 deaths per 1,000 live births to 48. Under-five mortality has gone down by 48 percent from 117 deaths per 1,000 live births to 61. The corresponding declines in neonatal and post-neonatal mortality over the 15 years period are 33 percent and 55 percent, respectively. Maternal health is a grave concern of the policy makers. Forty-four percent of mothers received antenatal care form skilled birth attendants (SBAs) for the health status over the last few decades; many challenges are being faced to improve the health status of people by the complicated emergence and resurgence of communicable diseases and on communicable diseases: notably new avian flu, emergence of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, irrational use of drug and environmental threats to the public health are significant challenges.

Health services facilities in Nepal and even in the capital Kathmandu are yet far beyond the reach of poor and middle economic class people. There is a distinct gap and discrepancy that has created unmanageable load on government aided hospital. In these circumstances after continuous and serious exercises we decided to establish a hospital by the name of Late Manmohan Adhakari renounced leader whose whole life was dedicated for the up liftmen of the people and the nation. To launch health services with such an noble mission, the co-operative concept was decided to be the best. Manmohan Memorial Hospital 100 bedded well equipped hospital has been established under NEHCO. To meet above problems NEHCO has planned to establish MMIHS of health sciences which will launch various diplomas programmed.

MMIHS intends to be the institution to provide such expertise and knowledge for the students to learn both theoretical and practical aspects, in our own Nepalese context as there have been numerous cases of our youth left technically unskilled, going abroad for studies, majority of them stay to avail comparatively better opportunities with just a handful returning home. Those foreign returnees find it difficult to adopt in own country's environment. MMIHS is to provide a modern resourceful, relevant and practical education in health sciences. Through our varied extra co-curricular activities, they will earn other personal qualities like self reliance, self confidence, discipline, leadership traits, value judgment, social service etc. and get fully equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century as health professionals, nurses, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, and mangers.
